1966 to 1970 Ford Falcons

Body Styles                 2dr & 4dr sedans, 4dr station wagons, Futuras and Sports Coupes.  Ranchero 1966 only.

1966…………..                 No more Convertibles, Hardtops, Sedan Deliveries or 2 dr wagons.

Last year for the Falcon Ranchero. Last year for the single bowl master cylinder.

Last year for the Green Dot Tranny.  Last year for the letters “FORD” across the hood of a Falcon. First year back up lights were standard.

Bumpers                 1966 & 1967 have the same front bumpers.

1968 thru 1970 have the same front bumpers.

1966 thru 1970 have the same rear bumpers.

Grills                      1966 mesh type (flat cheese grater)

1967 cross type (dominant vertical and horizontal bar)

1968 thru 1970 center divided type

Front Fenders                 1966 Plain Jane

1967 Scalloped or Louvered indents at center rear

1968 large holes, front lower, for reflectors

1969 & 1970 small holes, front lower, for marker lights

NOTE:                     The 1968 front fender reflectors differ from the 6 cylinder to the V8.

The V8 reflectors have the numbers “289” or “302” on them.

The 6 cylinder reflectors are plain.

Doors

Doors are interchangeable through all years except for the 1966 Ranchero.  The Ranchero doors are the same as the 2dr sedan (and same as the 1967 Fairlane Ranchero) except for the rounded window and window frame.  The wing window assemblies are the same for all years.  Even though all doors are interchangeable, the inside door handles and arm rests on the ‘66 &‘67 are different from the later ‘68 thru ‘70.

Hood

All hoods are interchangeable.  The 1966 will have the letters “FORD”                 across the front.  The ‘66 & ‘67 have the same narrow front edge hood chrome to match the head light doors.  The ‘68 thru ‘70 have a much wider front edge hood chrome, again to match the head light doors, with a long        brace across the front of the hood to support it.

Padded Dash

The 1966 and the 1967 are different but can be interchanged.  The ‘66 is completely flat across the top.  The ‘67 has an indentation in the middle about as long as the radio speaker.  The 1968 to 1970 are the same.  This completely new design is much larger than the previous years.

 Ranchero / Wagon

The 1966 Falcon Ranchero shares some body parts with the 1967 Fairlane Ranchero.  The doors, all glass, tail gate, rear bumper, chrome around the truck bed, and the main body are the same. The ‘66 Falcon Ranchero has an

exposed gas cap.  I am not sure if the Fairlane Ranchero shares this feature or if it has a gas cap door concealing the gas cap as on the 1968 thru 1970 Falcon station wagons.  I think the ‘67 Falcon wagon also has an exposed gas cap.  The dash on the Falcon and Fairlane differ.  The 1966 to 1970 Falcon station wagons also share some body parts with the 1966 & 1967 Fairlane wagons.

Tail Lights

Again, the round ‘66 & ‘67 sedan complete tail light assemblies can be                 interchanged but they are slightly different from each other.  Some ‘67 tail light lenses have a chrome ring on the lense. The rectanglular ‘68 thru ’70 tail light assemblies are the same.  All ‘66 thru ‘70 tail lights have a back up light in the center.

These are just a few of the similarities.  Other items on these later Falcons to check out at your next Falcon meet are:

Futura trim,  hub caps,  trunk chrome,  head light doors,  Sports Coupe trim, disc brakes,  tires,  bucket seats,  steering wheels,  wheel well mouldings,  air conditioning.
